New and Wacky Laws for California in 2007
January 29, 2007 on 9:55 pm | In Uncategorized | No CommentsDid you know there are 910 new California laws that came into affect as of Jan 1, 2007?
Here’s a List of some notable new California laws
- Minimum wage jumps 75 cents an hour to $7.50. Not too shabby.
- DUI convictions on an offender’s driving record for 10 years instead of 7. Don’t drink and drive.
- Anyone under 21 found driving with just 0.01% blood alcohol content will face criminal fines. The limit’s been 0.05%, subject to just civil action. Yikes!
- Riding in the trunk of a car will result in a $100 base fine. At first I thought this law was targetted at illegal aliens but some teenagers who can’t carry passengers until they’ve been licensed longer, conceal people in their trunk.
- For those Fast and Furious fans, street racing causing serious injury will be a felony. First-time offenders will face fines or jail time up to six months.
- For you animal owners, it will be a misdemeanor to leave an animal alone in a car if it puts the pet’s health in harm’s way. I didn’t know this was not a law already.
- Another law passed this year makes it illegal to talk on a cell phone while driving unless you have a hands-free device, but that law doesn’t take effect until July of 2008.
Now Here’s the New Wacky Laws in Affect this year in CA
- You can no longer teather a dog for more than 3 hours or you can be given a citation or worse. So no leashing up your dog to a tree to go see the Star Wars trology (yeah I know, bad example).
- This one I love, FREE BEER SAMPLES can now be given to people at retail stores licensed to sell the beverage. I can’t wait when Costco provides this, although I think I will end up buying more stuff I don’t need. Rules are, must be served in a glass, no bottles or cans. 8oz per person per day. Did someone say, grocery store hopping?
- Here’s another one that cracked me up. For those who take free newspapers typically situated at bus/train stations, grocery stores, you can only take up to 25 free copies. Take one more and you are busted. Now I can’t figure out why you would need more than 25 free junk papers, maybe to set someone on fire or wipe up a really bad poo. (How many blog posts have you read that ends with the word “poo”)
Yahoo! Has Cool Gear
July 26, 2006 on 4:29 am | In Uncategorized | No CommentsFor the Christmas cards last year, my family decided that it would be fun if we all wore Yahoo! shirts for the photo. We’ll, the photo cards turned out nice and we sent out about 200, which is the usual number of folks. Sadly this is the only way we keep in touch with some of our distant friends and family. But oh well.
The neat thing is that when my family got the cards, some of my family members overheard my cousins talking about how cool it would be to have some Y! shirts. The conversation finally got back to me and I am planning on getting them some of these shirts. And free advertising for Yahoo! Not a bad deal.

Why buy when you can rescue?
July 1, 2006 on 2:22 pm | In Pet Adoption, Uncategorized | No CommentsThis is Rosie. She is part Labrador Retriever and German Shepherd. After several weeks of looking for the perfect family dog, we ran into Rosie at the Mission Viejo, CA Animal Shelter. From the first time she came up to us and my kids, we knew she was the perfect dog for us.

Prior to Rosie, we had Mookie, a beautiful and massive Siberian Husky who lived for almost 15 years. We purchased him at a local pet shop. After Mookie died, my kids really wanted a new dog so we went around to the local pet shops and visited some breaders. But the more I thought about it, as well as the sticker shock of pure breds these days, why not rescue a dog that needs a home. So after several weeks of looking, we found Rosie, a 7 month old Labrador/Shepherd mix, and a perfect addition to our family.
